What a week in Tupelo for this TRST!

A local swimmer is arguably the best swimmer of his age in the entire state of Louisiana – a young man who has solidified his place in the state’s record books with consistently dominant performances.

TRST and E.D. White swimmer Jonathan Husbands has enjoyed an amazing run of success in the pool, including setting a state record in the 50 free.

Husbands competes for the Cardinals, but also for the Thibodaux Regional Swim Team and the Bayou Country Club.

He has success at every turn and has rewritten record books at every level. At the SCSA Meet of Champions, Husbands broke the record for the 50-yard butterfly, swimming a 25.68 second race, topping the previous record by .03 of a second.

At that meet, he also broke the 50-yard freestyle record by more than a whole second, swimming a 22.59-second race. That topped the old mark of 23.65 set in 2004.

For the Thibodaux Regional Swim Team, Husbands also has had immense success.

At the 2025 Louisiana Age Group Long Course State championships, Husbands took a treasure chest of medals, taking gold in the 50 free and 50 breaststroke, silvers in the 400-free relay, 50 backstroke, 100-free, 200-free relay, 200-medley relay and 100-breast stroke. He also took bronze in the 400-medley relay.

In taking gold in the 50 free, Husbands broke the Louisiana State Record swimming a 24.23-second, topping the old record of 24.47 seconds set in 2023.

This past week, Jonathan continued his successes, winning the 14U 50-freestyle, breaking the meet record with a long course time of 24.85 seconds.

He also took bronze this past weekend at the Senior Southern Zone Championships, in the process, qualifying for the Junior Nationals and officially making him the 3rd fastest 14-year-old in the country in the 50 free.

He also re-broke his own record, swimming a 24.08-second race. That time makes him the 30th fastest 14-year-old in United States history.

ISF Fair Play Award Presented to the United States Swimming Team

The International School Sport Federation (ISF) Swimming Technical Committee is proud to announce that the Fair Play Award has been presented to the United States swimming team for their exemplary act of sportsmanship during the U15 Gymnasiade Swimming Competition.

In a true display of solidarity and fair play, the U.S. team offered their own training time to the Brazilian team, who were facing difficulties with their scheduled session. This generous gesture ensured that all Brazilian swimmers were able to complete their preparation without missing valuable training time.

Their actions reflect the core values of respect, cooperation, and international friendship that lie at the heart of school sport.

The ISF commends the United States swimming team for setting a powerful example of what it means to compete with integrity and support one another beyond national lines.

This moment stands as a reminder of the unifying power of sport and the positive impact athletes can have on each other—both in and out of the pool.

On behalf of the ISF Swimming Technical Committee
